Advantages of Using Machinery Sliders™ for
Loading Shipping Containers

Direct answer: A shipping container’s door opening is several inches shorter than its interior height, so a machine on standard 3″–6″ skates or dollies can fit inside the box but not through the door. The Container Door Problem

The door is always shorter than the box: Here’s the detail that catches crews off guard: a shipping container’s door opening is several inches shorter than the container’s interior height, because the door header, frame, locking-rod hardware, and door seals eat into the opening. On a standard container the door opening runs roughly 7’5″; even a high cube — a foot taller overall — gives up those same inches at the door. And exact dimensions vary by container manufacturer, age, and design, so measure the actual container before loading day, not the spec sheet. Now put a tall machine on standard skates or dollies riding 3″ to 6″ high, and a machine that fits inside the container suddenly won’t fit through the door. The skates raise it straight into the header.

The old answers are all bad: Lay the machine down (risky and often forbidden by the OEM), partially disassemble it (hours and recertification), or find a taller container that may not exist for the route. All of them cost money and time that were never in the quote.

Push It In, Strap It Down, Leave the Sliders

The retrieval problem, solved by not having one: As machinery movers and riggers, we all know the feeling of pushing a big machine deep into a container and then thinking: “How are we going to get our dollies or skates out from behind and under that machine?” Retrieving skates inside a packed container means jacking in a confined space — pinch points, no room to work a toe jack, restricted escape routes — and every extra lift is extra exposure. And if you leave expensive skates with the shipment instead, now you’re arranging and paying return freight, tracking equipment across the country or an ocean, and hoping the receiver actually sends them back. Securement still rules — don’t depend on friction: Remember what Machinery Sliders are built to do: let the machine move easily. That’s exactly why proper blocking, bracing, and lashing matter even more once the doors close. Ocean, rail, and road transport throw braking forces, coupling shocks, and vessel roll at the load — the machine’s weight alone won’t hold it. Block it tight, brace it, and strap it with rated gear to the container’s anchor points, following the IMO/ILO/UNECE CTU Code for container packing and FMCSA cargo securement rules for the road leg. The sliders handle movement and positioning; the securement system handles the voyage.

Easy at the far end: Bonus for whoever unloads: the machine arrives already sitting on sliders. Hook on and pull it straight out — no jacking in the confined space of a container — and the receiving crew can keep right on using the same sliders for final placement at the machine’s new home.
