Why Zero-Metal Construction Actually Matters
Floor Protection:
Because there’s no metal anywhere in the slider, there’s no steel-to-floor contact to worry about at any point — not just at the wheel. That’s relevant on epoxy coatings, polished concrete, tile, and other finished surfaces where even a “non-marking” steel-framed skate can still create problems if the frame or a worn roller edge contacts the floor.
That said, no-metal construction doesn’t remove every floor risk. On concrete, a Slider can still scratch the surface if it passes over debris — a stray metal chip, stone, weld spatter, or other hard particle trapped underneath. Sweep and inspect the travel path before the move, regardless of which moving equipment you’re using.
Cleanrooms & Controlled Environments:
Machinery Sliders have no bearings, no lubrication, and no wheels — which also means no metal particulate shedding from a rolling contact point. That’s consistent with why Sliders are already used in cleanroom and precision manufacturing settings.
Corrosion & Washdown Environments:
Food processing, pharmaceutical, and other washdown facilities are hard on steel — even coated or stainless steel frames can corrode over time under repeated cleaning chemicals and moisture. HDPE doesn’t rust, pit, or corrode, which matters if the sliders are ever left in place under a machine rather than removed after the move.
Weight & Handling Safety:
Traditional steel skates and dollies can weigh up to 120 lbs each. A Machinery Slider weighs 13 ounces to 1.5 lbs. One person can carry a full set without lifting equipment — a byproduct of removing metal from the equation, not just a separate feature.
Important: Non-Metallic Does Not Mean Non-Sparking or ESD-Safe:
HDPE is a dielectric material, but Machinery Sliders are not tested or certified for hazardous-location, explosion-proof, spark-resistant, or ESD-rated use. If your move involves a classified electrical area, flammable atmosphere, or static-sensitive electronics, confirm requirements with your facility’s safety engineer and use equipment specifically rated for that application. Don’t assume “no metal” automatically means “safe around ignition sources or electronics” — those are separate engineering certifications.
