4 Single-Direction Machinery Sliders — designed primarily for heavy machinery traveling along an established path. Each slider weighs 1.3 lbs (0.59 kg) and measures 11-1/2″ long × 8-1/4″ wide × 3/8″ thick, with a 1″ × 1″ reinforced front bumper and a 7″ deep × 8-1/4″ wide machine-support surface.
The machine column, leg or appropriate support point rests behind the reinforced bumper. As the machine is moved in the intended direction, the support point bears against the bumper, helping keep the Machinery Slider positioned beneath the machine. Because the slider is only 3/8″ thick, the machine support point remains only 3/8″ above the floor. Use this style when the machinery primarily needs to travel in one direction and minimum machine elevation is important.
4 Multi-Directional Machinery Sliders — 1″ Pin/Bolt Hole — designed for machinery that needs to turn, reverse, maneuver or change direction. Each slider weighs 1.0 lb (0.45 kg) and measures 8″ diameter × 1″ high, with a 1″ round center opening and a 5″-diameter machine-support surface.
The machine’s appropriate column, leg or support point rests on the 5″-diameter top surface. An appropriate pin or bolt engages the 1″ center opening, positively retaining the Machinery Slider beneath the machine support point. Use this style when multidirectional movement is required and the machine support arrangement is suitable for the 1″ pin/bolt retention method.
4 Multi-Directional Machinery Sliders — 4″ Leveling Pad/Machine Leg Recess — designed for machinery with leveling pads, machine legs or similar support points up to approximately 4″ in diameter. Each slider weighs 13 oz (0.37 kg) and measures 8″ diameter × 1″ overall height, with a 4-1/16″-diameter recessed pocket routed 1/2″ deep.
The machine’s leveling pad or leg sits directly inside the 4-1/16″ recessed pocket. Although the slider itself is 1″ high, the recessed pocket is 1/2″ deep, so when the machine’s leveling pad or leg is fully seated, the bottom of that support point is only 1/2″ above the floor. Use this style when the machine has an appropriate leveling pad or leg and needs multidirectional movement.
Machinery movers rarely encounter exactly the same machine, support configuration, floor and travel path on every job. One machine may need to travel primarily straight through a facility. Another may need to turn several times before reaching its final position. Another may stand on 4″ leveling pads and require multidirectional positioning while maintaining extremely low clearance.
The 12-piece combination set gives the crew the ability to select the Machinery Slider according to the machine and the move, rather than trying to make one design fit every situation.
Use the Single-Direction Sliders For:
Use the 1″ Pin/Bolt Multi-Directional Sliders For:
Use the 4″ Foot-Pad Multi-Directional Sliders For:
One of the most important differences between the three Machinery Slider styles is how the slider remains beneath the machine.
Reinforced Bumper — The Single-Direction Slider uses a 1″ × 1″ reinforced front bumper. The machine support point bears against the bumper as the load moves in the intended direction.
1″ Pin/Bolt Opening — The standard Multi-Directional Slider uses an appropriate pin or bolt through its 1″ center opening to positively retain the slider beneath the machine. This allows direction changes without relying on movement toward a bumper.
4-1/16″ Recessed Machine-Foot Pocket — The 4″ Foot-Pad Multi-Directional Slider captures an appropriate machine leveling pad or leg within a 4-1/16″-diameter × 1/2″-deep recessed pocket. This retains the slider beneath the machine while allowing multidirectional movement.
The three designs give the machinery mover different solutions for different machine support configurations.
All three Machinery Slider styles keep heavy machinery close to the floor.
This gives the crew three different machine-support configurations while maintaining a low-profile machinery-moving system.
All three Machinery Slider styles incorporate a 3/8″ bevel designed to help them transition over floor irregularities rather than meeting an obstruction with a square vertical edge.
Industrial machinery-moving paths can include cracked concrete, expansion joints, gaps, damaged floors, uneven surfaces, floor transitions and other small obstacles and irregularities.
Actual performance over a particular irregularity depends upon the load, floor material, surface condition and size and shape of the obstruction.
Every Machinery Slider in this 12-piece set is 100% non-metallic. The Machinery Sliders themselves contain no metal wheels, no metal rollers, no bearings, no axles, no steel skate frames, no mechanical moving parts. They are manufactured from a high-performance engineered plastic resin.
For the standard Multi-Directional Slider, any pin or bolt used to engage the 1″ center opening is part of the machine/support or retention arrangement and is not a component of the Machinery Slider itself.
For machinery movers looking for non-metallic machinery skates, non-metallic machine skates, non-metallic machinery dollies or a non-metallic alternative to conventional wheeled machinery-moving equipment, this set provides all three Machinery Slider configurations.
Machinery Sliders are designed as wear items. The bottom of each slider travels directly across the floor instead of rolling on wheels or bearings. Normal machinery-moving use therefore gradually wears the sliding surface.
Wear rate depends upon machinery weight, distance traveled, load distribution, floor material, floor roughness, cracks and gaps, obstacles, and conditions of the individual move.
Machinery Sliders should be inspected for wear and physical condition and replaced when they reach the end of their useful service life.
Machinery Sliders contain no wheels, rollers, bearings or axles. There are no wheel assemblies to lubricate, bearings to service or rollers to rebuild.
Their engineered-resin construction also makes them lightweight and easy for machinery-moving and rigging crews to carry, position and deploy.
Each Machinery Slider is capable of supporting approximately 10 tons under appropriate loading conditions.
Additional Machinery Sliders can be used when required to provide additional support points and distribute heavier machinery loads. The correct quantity, style and placement of sliders should be determined from the machine’s actual weight, weight distribution, center of gravity, support points, floor conditions, travel requirements and machinery-moving plan. See our Questions & Answers page for the sizing math on larger moves, such as a 100-ton press setup.
Depending upon the load and conditions, Machinery Sliders can be used on many surfaces encountered during machinery-moving work, including concrete, worn or damaged concrete, wood, tile, carpet, dock plates, and asphalt at reduced capability depending upon load and surface conditions.
The 1/2″ beveled edges help the sliders transition across many cracks, gaps, joints and floor irregularities encountered during actual industrial machinery moves.
